?`s and ANNEswers

When using commas in a sentence is a comma placed before (and). Example (The contract called for the replacement of windows, doors, carpet and light fixtures.)

There are two schools of thought here. One says you don’t need the comma because you have the word ‘and’. The other says it makes clearer sense to add it. I fall into the latter group, and here’s a sentence that shows why. We enjoy games such as Monopoly, Sorry, Rummy, and Chutes and Ladders. If we didn’t put a comma after Rummy, it would sound like the name of the game was Rummy and Chutes and Ladders. This doesn’t happen often, but I simply make it a rule to put a comma every time, instead of analyzing whether I should or not.
