Why doesn’t Groundhog Day use an apostrophe S, but Valentine’s Day does?

After exhaustive research, I’ve concluded that it’s simply tradition that makes this so. Purists like myself would prefer the apostrophe S tagged onto Groundhog for consistency, but we are fighting a losing battle. A greater issue is whether it’s President’s Day or Presidents’ Day. The second version is correct, because we’re honoring more than one president.
