Michelle from kKentucky asks...
What is the correct punctuation for etc. when used in the middle of a sentence? For example: We had toys, clothes, shoes, etc., at the yard sale. Is this correct? Or should it not have a comma after the period like this: We had toys, clothes, shoes, etc. at the yard sale.
Anne answers...
When etc. ends a series, as it does in your sentence, you put a comma before it and a comma after it.
