Evelyn asks...
My sister has been writing poetry for a number of years. After an officer was killed, she was ask to write some poems about him by the department. She ask me to proof them. I do not know the rules for commas, etc for poetry. It seemed her use was not proper. I am 75 years old and have forgotten a lot. I did not critique her poems, but told her they were great. The words were full of feeling. I would appreciate your input.

I believe you did the right thing. While punctuation in poetry can be important, the feeling inbedded in the poems is far more essential. The world should not judge the value of your sister's poetry by its punctuation; rather, it should be judged by the feeling that lingers. And, from the sound of your email, it does.
