Almost everyone has a different opinion of what a hero is or what makes a hero. How can I fix that non-parallel sentence?

For starters, the sentence is fine the way it is. But if you are concerned about parallelism, you could write it this way: “Almost everyone has a different opinion of what a hero is made of or of what a hero is.”
