My supervisor insists that a period at the end of the sentence should always be included inside quotation marks, and never outside. I disagree and believe that there are times that it is appropriate for the period to be outside the quotation marks. Which one of us is correct?

Unfortunately, I cannot find any example to prove your point. In direct quotes a period at the end of a sentence is always included inside quotation marks.
