Do you say “this speaks volumes TO his character” or “..speaks volumes OF his character”? Thank you

My dictionary says that “speaks for” is the correct expression if you are conveying something commendable about a person. For instance, “Her manners speak well for her training.” So neither of the choices you presented is 100 percent correct.
